Pnb: Rs 12,236cr for higher education, schools

Thus, Rs 12,236 crore has been allocated for school and higher education and Rs 540 crore for technical education in the state.The government proposed Samagraha Shiksha Abhiyan for elementary and secondary education for which Rs 750 crore and Rs 323 crore have been allocated. Rs 25 crore has been allocated for converting government schools into smart schools.There is a plan to set up an open university at Patiala for which Rs 5 crore has been allocated, while Rs 7 crore has also been sanctioned for faculty improvement programmes to be undertaken by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. CHANDIGARH: Finance minister Manpreet Badal said the government increased allocation for education by 9.75% compared to the past fiscal. The new schemes will subsume other scheme such as Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and schemes related to the district institutes of education and training (DIET).Manpreet said that the government had decided to open colleges in 10 locations -Mohali, Bhucho, Baluana, Dharamkot, Chabbewal, Dasuya, Samrala, Nabha, Malout and Khem Karan - for which Rs 50 crore has been allocated.An amount of Rs 75 crore will be spend on upgradation and maintenance of existing school infrastructure in the state.
