Tenant gets 7-yr-jail term for raping 17-yr-old

The girl had said the woman told her that she would speak to her mother to get her married to the man. Later, the girl had told her mother about the alleged sexual assault. It was argued that though the FIR was lodged in October 2017 and the reported incident was of July 2017, the accused had vacated the house in June 2017. The woman locked the room and forced her to "have sexual relations with him". She had also threatened that if she would disclose about the incident to anyone, both of them would kill her family members.

CHANDIGARH: A local court on Monday sentenced a man to seven year jail term for raping a 17-year-old girl and fined him Rs 10,000.However, the convict's sister-in-law had been acquitted in the case.On October 9, 2017, the police booked the accused under Sections 342, 376, 506 and 120 B of the IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of POCSO Act . According to the police complaint, the accused were tenants at the house of the rape survivor.The girl, in her complaint, had said the accused, his brother-in law-and his wife were staying as tenants and the woman used to give her make-up tips.The girl had said the woman called her to do her facial and when she went upstairs, the accused was there. The woman locked the room and forced her to "have sexual relations with him". Kanchan had also raised the volume of TV. The girl had said the woman told her that she would speak to her mother to get her married to the man. She had also threatened that if she would disclose about the incident to anyone, both of them would kill her family members. After a few months, the girl had become pregnant. Later, the girl had told her mother about the alleged sexual assault. Defence counsel Yadvinder Sandhu argued both the accused were falsely implicated in the matter. It was argued that though the FIR was lodged in October 2017 and the reported incident was of July 2017, the accused had vacated the house in June 2017.
