Horses, jawans steal yoga show

A perfect balance and synchronisation between the well-decorated horses and the jawans was at display as they stretched for about an hour without any hiccup. There are a total of 38 trained horses at the Bhanu-based training centre.

They were specially trained along with the riders for the past six months before performing here. It is tough to strike a balance between horses and jawans as in yoga a lot of stretching is involved. It is the first time that jawans did yoga on horses,” said ITBP Deputy Commandant Raveshwar Rana. “It is a back exercise for both the horses and riders. It is relaxing for the horses too,” he said. Naveen Arora, IG (Training), ITBP, said, “It is about synchronisation between the two. It is not easy to keep the animals in control in such a crowd.” SB Sharma, DIG, ITBP, Bhanu, said they brought the horses from their Barwala centre and left from there as early as 3 am in different vehicles. The horses stood in Sector 17 since 5 am. Officials said the interesting names of the horses were derived from their nature. “We name them according to their performance and nature. It also helps us maintain their records on paper,” said the DIG. There are a total of 38 trained horses at the Bhanu-based training centre. However, comparatively docile horses were specially chosen to perform here so that they did not lose balance and were able stand in front of the huge crowd.
