Army man arrested for wife’s murder

While the woman’s father Chiranji Lal of Ranbirpura Korjiwala village has alleged murder, her husband Harbjeet Singh (30) of Mohali, a Lance Naik in Army, claimed innocence. Chiranji Lal alleged that his daughter Surjit Kaur was married to Harbjeet five years ago. Harbjeet came to their home on Wednesday and took his wife along on the pretext of visiting a nearby market. The Army man had returned home for holidays. On Chiranji Lal’s complaint, the police registered a case against Harbjeet Singh under Sections 302 and 120-B of the IPC.

Couple’s scooter skids into canal, woman feared drowned Patiala, June 21 A 23-year-old woman is feared drowned after the scooter she was riding pillion, along with her husband, allegedly skidded and fell into the Bhakra canal near Pissiana village. While the woman’s father Chiranji Lal of Ranbirpura Korjiwala village has alleged murder, her husband Harbjeet Singh (30) of Mohali, a Lance Naik in Army, claimed innocence. The police have arrested Harbjeet. Chiranji Lal alleged that his daughter Surjit Kaur was married to Harbjeet five years ago. He stated that the couple used to quarrel often. Harbjeet came to their home on Wednesday and took his wife along on the pretext of visiting a nearby market. He said Harbjeet deliberately drove the scooter into the canal. The Army man had returned home for holidays. Passiana SHO Harwinder Singh said, “We received a call at about 9 pm that two persons had fell into the Bhakra canal when the scooter they were riding skidded into it. Bystanders pulled Harbjeet out of the waters safely but they could not locate his wife.” Meanwhile, Harbjeet said he lost control over the vehicle as the lights of an approaching vehicle blinded him partially. On Chiranji Lal’s complaint, the police registered a case against Harbjeet Singh under Sections 302 and 120-B of the IPC. — TNS
