Jeet stuns Arjun, to face Sanil in quarterfinals

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, June 26Haryana’s Jeet Chandra stunned fourth seed Arjun Ghosh to seal a spot in the men’s singles quarterfinals at the UTT National Ranking (North Zone) Table Tennis Championships in Sonepat on Wednesday. Jeet won 8-1111-9 11-9 11-9 11-8. In the women’s singles pre-quarters, Archana Kamath humbled Anindita Chakraborty 11-5 11-7 9-11 11-2 12-10, while Prapti Sen rallied to beat Mallika Bhandarkar 9-11 11-7 11-7 11-5 9-11 10-12 11-9. Diya Chitale registered an 11-8 12-14 11-8 11-8 11-5 win over CR Harshavardhini. Sutirtha Mukherjee blanked Shruti Amrute 11-9 11-3 11-6 11-5 and Sagarika Ggosh downed Shweta Parte 11-9 11-4 5-11 12-10 11-9.

Chandigarh, June 26 Haryana’s Jeet Chandra stunned fourth seed Arjun Ghosh to seal a spot in the men’s singles quarterfinals at the UTT National Ranking (North Zone) Table Tennis Championships in Sonepat on Wednesday. Jeet won 8-1111-9 11-9 11-9 11-8. The comeback man, Soumyajit Ghosh pounced on the opportunity to beat the Youth National champion Manush Shah 4-1, while top seed Manav Thakkar, who had survived a scare against Delhi’s Payas Jain in the first round, settled in to beat let-handed Abhishek Yadav 4-0. Third seed Sudhanshu Grover struggled before he overcame Haryana’s Sourav Saha 4-2. Grover would now play Harmeet Desai, who blanked Kiranjoy Pushilal 4-0. Another Haryana paddler, Jubin Kumar struggled before he managed to overcome Abhimanyu Mitra 4-3, while second seed Anthony Amalraj was at ease against Ronit Bhanja of West Bengal. Amalraj won 4-1.
