Tribune News ServiceChandigarh, July 14The Students for Society (SFS) has expressed concern over newly printed hostel rulebook by the PU Vice-Chancellor and wardens of all girls’ hostels. The new rules are an attempt to curb the assertion of women inside public spaces at all times. They are not answerable to the parents when girls have to take expensive PGs outside the university due to lack of hostels and a transparent hostel allotment portal. So, as a move to restore power and “safety” for hostel inmates, it has been decided that the female students who fail to mark their attendance will be expelled from the hostel after two warnings. After which, all fines charged from female inmates were thereby cancelled and they could avail of 24*7 entry/exit by signing on a mobility register.

Chandigarh, July 14 The Students for Society (SFS) has expressed concern over newly printed hostel rulebook by the PU Vice-Chancellor and wardens of all girls’ hostels. A letter sent to the media by the party states: “The ban on four-wheelers has not still been implemented. The new rules are an attempt to curb the assertion of women inside public spaces at all times. The only type of safety they are concerned with is shrugging off their shoulders if anything happens to a female student by showing an absent in the hostel’s attendance register. Expulsion is the new tool for gender discrimination on the campus. Attendance between 9-10 pm is “compulsory” for all residents.” Last year, students of the university protested for 48 days. After which, all fines charged from female inmates were thereby cancelled and they could avail of 24*7 entry/exit by signing on a mobility register.
