Officials said both buyers and vendors found using polythene bags will be penalised. “Our drive in the Sector 26 market will start from tomorrow. A team, led by Nazuk Kumar, SDM (Central), today issued about 20-25 challans over solid waste management (Rs 10,000) and plastic (Rs 5,000) use to shopkeepers and vendors in the Sector 26 market.

Officials said both buyers and vendors found using polythene bags will be penalised. “Our drive in the Sector 26 market will start from tomorrow. Anyone found carrying plastic bags will be challaned. We appeal to the public as well as those selling goods here not to use polythene,” said Dr Amrit Warring, Medical Officer of Health (MOH) at MC. A team, led by Nazuk Kumar, SDM (Central), today issued about 20-25 challans over solid waste management (Rs 10,000) and plastic (Rs 5,000) use to shopkeepers and vendors in the Sector 26 market. Some vendors and shopkeepers were found littering the road and they were fined on the spot. “Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav is strict against unauthorised parking, encroachment, littering and polythene use. We today met the newly trained sweepers and directed them to keep the mandi clean. We asked them to make sure the waste is segregated in dry and wet bins. From tomorrow, there will be public announcements to alert and aware people against the use of plastic,” said Dr Warring. “We will also send a request to the Food Safety Department for sampling of eatables and illegal ripening of fruits. We will take stringent action. The Commissioner will hold review meetings every Monday regarding the whole situation in the mandi,” he said.
