PGI adjudged best cancer care institute on global stage

Tribune News ServiceNew Delhi, September 8The Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, had received the best International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Cancer Care Team Award 2019 at Barcelona, Spain, during the World Lung Cancer Conference being held from of September 7 to 11. The PGI received the best lung cancer care award chosen by the world body for Asia and Rest of World region. The institute was rated the overall best in the world regarding cancer care. Prof Behera is the pioneer of lung cancer care in the country who started the programme in the institute way back in 1982. To spread awareness about lung cancer in India, Dr Behera formed the Indian Society for study of lung cancer and is the founder-president of the society.

New Delhi, September 8 The Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, had received the best International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Cancer Care Team Award 2019 at Barcelona, Spain, during the World Lung Cancer Conference being held from of September 7 to 11. The PGI received the best lung cancer care award chosen by the world body for Asia and Rest of World region. The institute was rated the overall best in the world regarding cancer care. Prof D Behera, Dr Navneet Singh and Dr Amanjit Bal received the award on behalf of the team on September 7 during the opening ceremony. Prof Behera is the pioneer of lung cancer care in the country who started the programme in the institute way back in 1982. The entire department of Pulmonary Medicine is involved in the study of lung cancer in its various aspects and Prof Behera has contributed in starting the lung cancer care program in PGI. Dr Navneet Singh and Dr KT Prasad are the other two faculty members of the Pulmonary Medicine Department and students of Prof Behera who are now also actively helping and managing the lung cancer cases. To spread awareness about lung cancer in India, Dr Behera formed the Indian Society for study of lung cancer and is the founder-president of the society. Dr Navneet’s Singh is the General Secretary of the Society. Dr Singh is also active member in various committees of the American society of Clinical Oncology and International Society for Study of Lung Cancer. The Thoracic Oncology Group of PGI consists of faculty from the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Histopathology, Cytopathology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiology and Nursing Faculty.
