Mishap at Hallo Majra chowk; scooter dragged 50 m Chandigarh, September 9 A 17-year-old boy, who was preparing for IELTS here, died after a speeding Hyundai i20 car hit the Activa he was riding near the Hallo Majra light point, while returning from Zirakpur after having dinner on the intervening night of September 8 and 9. The car dragged the scooter for around 50 metres. According to the police, the victim has been identified as Deepanshu, a native of Mansa, Punjab. He was staying as a PG (paying guest) in Sector 33. The police said the victim and his two friends had gone to Zirakpur to have dinner. On way back to Chandigarh, the victim was riding solo while his two friends were on another Activa. The incident took place around 1.50 am, when the victim’s scooter was hit from the rear by a speeding i20 car. Both the scooter and the car were found around 50 metres ahead of the spot where they had collided. The impact of the accident was so strong that the scooter was left completely damaged while the airbags of the car had opened. The car driver escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. The police were informed about the accident and the victim was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The autopsy was conducted today and the body handed over to the boy’s kin. Meanwhile, the police impounded the i20 car and registered a case against the car driver at the Sector 31 police station. “The suspect will be identified and arrested soon,” said a police official. Victim was not wearing helmet Police officials said the victim, Deepanshu, a native of Mansa in Punjab, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which proved fatal for him. The police didn’t recover any helmet from the spot.
