Dairy found using oil in cheese preparation

The Health Department found that cottonseed oil, an adulterant, was being used to manufacture ‘paneer’. District Health Officer (DHO) Satinder Singh said oil from the shop indicates that it was being used for making ‘paneer’. He added: “The owner said his workers were using oil and sometimes ghee to manufacture paneer which is adulteration of food,” he said. The DHO said the Food Safety Officer had collected samples of milk, paneer, curd, khoya, cream, seed oil and SMP. Samples of the milk products from the dairy were found substandard last year as well.

Patiala, September 18 In the run-up to the upcoming festival season, the Health Department and the police today raided Singla Milk Dairy in Raghu Majra and seized 10 packets of cottonseed oil and huge amount of skim-milk-powder (SMP) from the dairy. The Health Department found that cottonseed oil, an adulterant, was being used to manufacture ‘paneer’. District Health Officer (DHO) Satinder Singh said oil from the shop indicates that it was being used for making ‘paneer’. He added: “The owner said his workers were using oil and sometimes ghee to manufacture paneer which is adulteration of food,” he said. The DHO said the Food Safety Officer had collected samples of milk, paneer, curd, khoya, cream, seed oil and SMP. He said samples would be sent to a laboratory, and action would be taken after receiving the report. Samples of the milk products from the dairy were found substandard last year as well.
