Kher for sustainable development, 3Rs

Chief guest Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, addressed NSS volunteers and apprised them of growing problems due to the use of plastic. Quoting a line from Samuel Coleridge’s famous poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, “Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink”, Kher championed the Jal Shakti Abhiyan while telling the audience about rapidly decreasing groundwater and freshwater. Kher encouraged the youngsters to adopt the policy of sustainable development and manageable growth by pursuing 3Rs — reuse, recycle, reduce. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony in which all NSS volunteers took part. A flash-mob was organised by volunteers to spread awareness among students regarding the problems caused by plastic and remedial actions.

Chandigarh, September 19 The NSS unit of DAV College, Sector 10, organised a ‘Swachhata hi Seva’ event to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi here today. Chief guest Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, addressed NSS volunteers and apprised them of growing problems due to the use of plastic. She highlighted the devastating effects that plastic has on everyone and the different diseases that spread from the pollution caused by it. She also talked about the heavy cost involved in the manufacture and recycle of plastic and how we can use that money more productively if we just cease the use of plastic altogether. The principal, Dr Pawan Shama and the programming officers of NSS DAV presided over the event. A variety of cultural programmes were organised on the occasion. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony in which all NSS volunteers took part. A flash-mob was organised by volunteers to spread awareness among students regarding the problems caused by plastic and remedial actions.
