Murder convict jumps parole

Our CorrespondentZirakpur, September 19A convict in a murder case — Rakesh Kumar — has been on the run since he jumped his parole, said the police. The police said Rakesh Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case registered against him in 1998. Rakesh Kumar was lodged at the Central Jail, Patiala, before he was granted parole for 8 weeks in May 2019 and was to re-appear in jail on July 26. But he had not returned to the prison since then, said the police. A case was registered against the accused at Zirakpur police station under Sections 8 and 9 of The Punjab Good Conduct Prisoners Temporary Release Act, 1952.
