Mohali IT City to be country’s biggest job provider, says Health Minister

Mohali, September 20Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu today said IT City would emerge as the country’s biggest job provider in the future. Sidhu said this after inaugurating the fifth mega job and self-employment fair at the Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran. He said the target of providing 2.10 lakh jobs would be met till September 30. He also handed over job letters to 500 students by various companies with an annual package between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. The Health Minister said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had kept its promise by providing jobs to more than 9 lakh unemployed youths till date.

Sidhu said this after inaugurating the fifth mega job and self-employment fair at the Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran. He said several international level educational institutes such as universities were also coming up in IT City. He said under the ‘Ghar-Ghar Rozgar’ scheme, the Punjab Government had been successful in providing jobs to more than 30,000 unemployed youth in the first phase of the fair, which was being held across the state from September 9. He said the target of providing 2.10 lakh jobs would be met till September 30. He also handed over job letters to 500 students by various companies with an annual package between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. The Health Minister said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had kept its promise by providing jobs to more than 9 lakh unemployed youths till date. He further said in the first phase of the fair, 10,000 students had also registered themselves under the self-employment scheme and the Punjab Government would facilitate them in getting loans. Besides, 2,500 students had registered themselves for skill development training to be provided free of cost under the Skill Development Mission, he added. Satnam Singh Sandhu, CGC Chairman, said their college had earned a distinction by registering its name in the Limca Book of Records as 637 companies participated in their event and provided 6,000 jobs to the students. — TNS
