Seminar on legacy of Guru Nanak

Chandigarh, October 13The Panjab University organised a three-day seminar on 'Glorious legacy of Guru Nanak in the era of globalisation'. The session was dedicated to the theme "Role & Status of Women in Guru Nanak Bani". Prof Gill called Guru Nanak as secularist, modernist, rationalist, and a courageous person, who raised questions against many traditional rituals and other social evils. She stressed that people must follow the practical approach of Guru Nanak in dealing with their problems. In the end, she suggested that people should not be selective, while following Guru Nanak's Bani, where we accept only those ideas which suit us.

Chandigarh, October 13 The Panjab University organised a three-day seminar on 'Glorious legacy of Guru Nanak in the era of globalisation'. The first session of the third day was chaired by Prof Rajesh Gill. The session was dedicated to the theme "Role & Status of Women in Guru Nanak Bani". Prof Gill called Guru Nanak as secularist, modernist, rationalist, and a courageous person, who raised questions against many traditional rituals and other social evils. She stressed that people must follow the practical approach of Guru Nanak in dealing with their problems. She also urged the audience to adopt truth as a part of their daily lives. In the end, she suggested that people should not be selective, while following Guru Nanak's Bani, where we accept only those ideas which suit us. Prof Manvinder Kaur, Center of Women Studies, PU; Prof Anju Suri, Department of History, PU; and Prabhjot Kaur, Retired Principal, Govt College, Ludhiana, were the distinguished speakers of the panel discussion, who spoke on the relevance of Guru Nanak's Bani for improving the status of women in the society and giving equal opportunities to women in all aspects of social, political and economic spheres. Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar praised the organisers for their efforts and promised to hold more such seminars in the future. Registrar Karamjit Singh concluded the seminar with congratulating the conveners and the audience. — TNS
