HARYANA ELECTIONS 2019 Panchkula, October 13 In his speech during an “intellectual meet” held in the city today, the BJP working president, Jagat Prakash Nadda, focused more on his party’s achievement of abrogation of Article 370. He, however, also underlined local development projects. “Not just you even people of Jammu and Kashmir are happy on the revocation of Article 370. J&K is not just about two or three districts,” Nadda told the audience, which included people from different backgrounds like businessmen, traders and doctors. He also talked about India’s defence policy under Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Voters have made their choice to elect Khattar government again as Haryana has witnessed a qualitative change in last five years,” he said. “It’s about credibility of leadership and a new culture of politics of development, which unites everyone. India’s reputation at international level has gone up. US President Donald Trump’s attitude towards Modi signals importance of India across globe,” he added. From OROP, Rafale procurement to triple talaq, various national issues were raked by the BJP working president during his stay in the city. Appealing to vote in favour Gian Chand Gupta, Nadda said, “Your vote will not only strengthen the hands of BJP nominee from Panchkula, but Chief Minister and the state government too.” The city got approval for the NIFT (Rs 150 crore) and AYUSH Hospital (Rs 500 crore) due to Gupta’s efforts, he added. The Union Minister of State and MP from Ambala, Rattan Lal Kataria, the BJP nominee from Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta, the party candidate from Kalka, Latika Sharma, and BJP district president Deepak Sharma were also present during the event. Taking a poetic dig at Chander Mohan, the Congress candidate from Panchkula, Kataria said, “Ae chand ab fizaon ka daur nahi, ab to charon or kamal khil raha h.” While speaking on the occasion Gian Chand Gupta said, “There is BJP tsunami in Haryana and it will break all records.” “Chief Minister ML Khattar paid a special attention for the development of Panchkula. Our party has carried out 125 development works at the cost of Rs 2,000 crore in last five years,” he added. Will abide by party norms, says Gupta The 71-year-old BJP nominee from Panchkula, Gian Chand Gupta, said he would follow norms and traditions of the party when asked whether it would be his last election irrespective of he lost or won poll. “Whatever decision the party will take, I will abide by that as a party worker,” he said. The BJP has upper age limit of 75 years in place as the criteria for contesting elections. Gupta will turn 76 by 2024, when next Assembly elections will be held in the state. On a question of getting ministerial berth if the BJP comes to power in the state, Gupta’s reply was not much different. Earlier this month, during inauguration of the BJP election office at Sector 8, slogans to make Gupta Cabinet Minister were raised from the dais. Gupta, who comes from an RSS background, had unsuccessfully contested his first Assembly election from Panchkula in 2009. He defeated INLD’s Kulbhushan Goyal in 2014 Assembly election by a handsome margin. In a surprise, the Congress has pitted former Deputy Chief Minister and four-time MLA Chander Mohan against Gupta. On the campaign trail today, Gupta said Chander Mohan should answer where he remained for last 15 years. He also called Congress’ manifesto an election stunt, as they did nothing during their 10-year rule.
