No CCTV at kiosk, say police

The police said even the CCTV cameras at the OBC Bank — adjacent to the said ATM —were not functional. Thieves, in the absence of any security guard, had easily managed to cut through the ATM and made off with Rs 12.61 lakh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The police said they had already warned the bank manager to install more CCTVs and deploy security guard, however, the bank officials were said to have turned a blind eye to the warnings. Station House Officer (SHO), Ghanaur, Gurmeet Singh Gill, said there was no CCTV footage at the ATM. The police said despite strong guidelines in place, there was not even a single security guard at the ATM.

THEFT AT ATM Had warned the bank manager; no clue even after 48 hours Patiala, October 13 A day after Rs 12.61 lakh cash was stolen from an OBC ATM, at Chappar village, in Ghanaur block of the district, police investigations revealed that there was no CCTV at the ATM kiosk. The police said even the CCTV cameras at the OBC Bank — adjacent to the said ATM —were not functional. Thieves, in the absence of any security guard, had easily managed to cut through the ATM and made off with Rs 12.61 lakh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Though, the Patiala Police have booked unidentified persons under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code, they (police) are still clueless even after 48 hours. The police said they had already warned the bank manager to install more CCTVs and deploy security guard, however, the bank officials were said to have turned a blind eye to the warnings. Station House Officer (SHO), Ghanaur, Gurmeet Singh Gill, said there was no CCTV footage at the ATM. He said, “A few days ago, I had given a note to the manager that the facility was not safe as there were not enough CCTVs at the bank.” The bank building was in an isolated place of the village, therefore, the bank officials had to take extra precautions for safety, said the Ghanaur SHO. The police said despite strong guidelines in place, there was not even a single security guard at the ATM. The police added that the way the inbuilt cameras of the ATM machine were shut down, it appeared that the robbers had technical expertise. Superintendent of Police (SP), Investigations, Harmeet Hundal, said, “The investigations are underway and we are hopeful that the case will be resolved soon.”
