75 vendors get notices to relocate in Sector 17

There are about 650 registered vendors in Sector 17. Notices served in other areas tooMeanwhile, the MC also served 105 notices on vendors in Sector 19. Besides, the civic body served notices in Sector 15 (32), Maloya/DMC (38), Sector 23/16/24 (25), Sector 41 (35) and Dhanas (18).

Sandeep Rana Chandigarh, November 12 The enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation today issued shift-out notices to 75 registered vendors in Sector 17 directing them to relocate to their allotted sites in 30 days. Officials said if they did not vacate the area in the stipulated time period, they would be shifted forcibly. “We served notices to vendors in the Sector 17 plaza. From tomorrow onwards, we will issue notices to those sitting in Bank Square and rear side of the market,” Sunil Dutt, inspector, MC’s enforcement wing, said. There are about 650 registered vendors in Sector 17. All street vendors, except essential services vendors, will be shifted to Sector 15. The heart of the city, the Sector 17 plaza, is currently a vendors’ paradise and traders as well as residents have been up in arms against it. The authorities all this while let the city’s tourist hub turn into another flea market. “The vendors here increased manifold, making it difficult for visitors to even walk around the Plaza. Vendors keep chasing shoppers while minor brawls among vendors and chaos has become a routine,” a shopkeeper said. It was only after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the corporation to shift vendors to the allotted sites that the MC started the process. Notices served in other areas too Meanwhile, the MC also served 105 notices on vendors in Sector 19. Nearly 150 vendors will be allowed in Sector 19 while others will be relocated to allotted sites. In Sector 22, already 105 have been issued notices. Besides, the civic body served notices in Sector 15 (32), Maloya/DMC (38), Sector 23/16/24 (25), Sector 41 (35) and Dhanas (18). Third draw for site today The third draw of lots for vendors’ site will be held on Wednesday while the fourth will be held on Thursday. In the first two draws, nearly 3,200 vendors were covered and they are currently being served shift-out notices.
