MC orders patwaris, watchmen to check stubble burning

Tribune News ServicePanchkula, November 13To keep a check on stubble burning, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has now put the onus of ensuring that no one burns paddy stubble on patwaris and village watchmen of respective areas. An order to this effect has been issued by the MC. He said in such cases, there is a high possibility that farmers could burn the paddy residue in their fields. He said all patwari and watchmen of the area have been ordered to keep the whole area under their supervision so that no farmer burns paddy residue and to take necessary action against violators. So far 14 cases of stubble burning have been registered in the district.

An order to this effect has been issued by the MC. Rajesh Jogpal, Municipal Commissioner-cum-Administrator, said maximum cultivated areas are in rural areas falling in Ward No. 20 in the MC area. He said in such cases, there is a high possibility that farmers could burn the paddy residue in their fields. He said all patwari and watchmen of the area have been ordered to keep the whole area under their supervision so that no farmer burns paddy residue and to take necessary action against violators. If the caretaker was found negligent in providing the information, then legal action would be taken against him or her. Jogpal said anyone who disobeys the rule would be fined Rs 5,000. He said the district was many times cleaner as compared than other districts of Haryana and the climate was also clean. So far 14 cases of stubble burning have been registered in the district.
