Students’ assn gheraoes minister at cultural event

Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla was the chief guest on the occasion. The organisers said the NGO collected and utilised funds for the children of marginalised backgrounds and provided them uniforms, shoes, blankets and also pays for their education. Prabhleen Singh, co-ordinator of the NGO, said the Cabinet Minister provided a grant of Rs 2 lakh. The union wanted the government to issue white paper on the matter, he added.

The organisers said the NGO collected and utilised funds for the children of marginalised backgrounds and provided them uniforms, shoes, blankets and also pays for their education. Prabhleen Singh, co-ordinator of the NGO, said the Cabinet Minister provided a grant of Rs 2 lakh. “He assured he will contribute towards further projects initiated for the benefit of the children from marginalised backgrounds.” Later, members of the Punjab Student Welfare Association (PSWA), along with TET-pass and BEd, youth gheraoed the Cabinet Minister on his way out of the campus. Kulwinder Singh of the PSWA said the government had made graduation compulsory for ETT teachers, which is illogical, as there won’t be any difference in minimum educational qualification for ETT and BEd. The union wanted the government to issue white paper on the matter, he added. He said: “The CM had claimed to relax the age for eligibility for government jobs but the same has not been done in relation to recently released notifications for recruitment to posts which are lying vacant.”
