MC to build cattle pound to deal with strays in Ambala

Bar Association president Rohit Jain said: “The sanitary inspector of the MC, Ambala City, appeared before the court today and made a statement that a tender was allotted on September 1 to catch stray animals. It was the duty of the MC to build a cattle pound from the beginning. The official has informed that a committee has been constituted by the MC Commissioner to submit a report regarding the setting up a cattle pound. We have requested the court to pass orders for interim relief as the work to catch stray animals has come to a halt.

Ambala, November 15 To deal with stray cattle, the Municipal Corporation, Ambala, will now build a cattle pond in Ambala City. This was revealed by officials of the corporation during the hearing of a case pending before the Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services against the MC for the removal of stray animals. A group of practising advocates in Ambala had filed a petition under Section 22 of the Legal Services Authority Act - 1987 for the removal of stray animals roaming in the municipal area of Ambala in August, last year. Bar Association president Rohit Jain said: “The sanitary inspector of the MC, Ambala City, appeared before the court today and made a statement that a tender was allotted on September 1 to catch stray animals. A total of 149 cattle have been caught and taken to gaushalas, which are full to their capacity. Gaushalas have refused to accept more animals. In this situation, the corporation has no place to send more animals following which the work of catching stray animals has also come to a halt.” “People operating gaushalas are not bound to accept animals and they have been working for social cause only. It was the duty of the MC to build a cattle pound from the beginning. The official has informed that a committee has been constituted by the MC Commissioner to submit a report regarding the setting up a cattle pound. We have requested the court to pass orders for interim relief as the work to catch stray animals has come to a halt. The next date of hearing is on November 19,” he said.
