Public gatherings banned in Punjab; not more than 30 guests allowed in a marriage

As per a detailed notification issued by the government, mandatory FIRs shall be filed against those found breaching the curb on public gatherings, which have now been barred.

Amid increasing coronavirus cases, the Punjab government on Monday announced a complete ban on all public gatherings. The administration has further restricted the number of people at social gatherings to five.

Also, no more than 30 guests are allowed at marriages or other social functions, said Punjab Chief Minister`s Office (CMO).

The management of marriage halls/hotels shall be held responsible and shall face licence suspension in case of violation of norms.

According to the new guidelines, it is now compulsory to wear masks at workplaces/offices/ closed places.

During his #AskCaptain Facebook live session held on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had hinted at imposing more stringent curbs, saying strictness was required to stem the COVID-19 spread. He added that he did not want Punjab to go the way of Delhi, Mumbai, or Tamil Nadu.

While appealing to people to obey all the curbs, Amarinder Singh had urged all political parties to avoid any kind of gathering.

"It is our joint responsibility to save Punjab. Politics can wait," he said while underlining the significance of a collective fight by one and all against "the biggest danger facing humanity."
