The UT administration has backed the construction of a flyover on the Sector 29-31 rotary despite opposition from residents, deciding to submit its report before the Punjab and Haryana high court.

“We will apprise the high court that the administration is in favour of the flyover,” said UT adviser Manoj Parida.

On the directions of the high court, the administration had held public hearing sessions and explored alternative proposals. “Finally, we have decided we should go ahead with the flyover work,” Parida said.

Sources said the administration was planning to discuss the project in a UT Administrator’s Advisory Council meeting before submitting the report in the high court, but has now changed its mind.

Initially, the administration had planned a 7-km-long flyover, but the central government reduced the length to 3.5 km. Later, the ministry of road transport and highways further reduced the length of the flyover to 1.2 km.
