Tribune News Service Mohali January 28 As a pilot project basic legal advice will be given free of cost to the accused complainants victims and witnesses in the police stations of the Mohali district. Rajinder Singh Rai District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority stated this while presiding over the quarterly meeting of the DLSA at Judicial Complex in Sector 76 today. Rai said various issues related to legal services were discussed in detail in the meeting. He said despite the Covid pandemic free legal aid was given in 593 cases during 2020 472 detainees were granted interim bail and 72 prisoners were released on a parole. He said the next National Lok Adalat would be held in April 2021. Rai said for the pilot project a panel of advocates had been constituted as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court that would give preliminary advice so that the person concerned might contact the lawyer appointed from the panel for that particular police station. During the meeting it was decided that the free legal aid schemes of the DLSA should be widely disseminated through all media platforms and also asked the police to make the investigating officer aware of filing a case with the DLSA. The police personnel were asked to inform the needy about the new pilot project.
