Tribune News Service Chandigarh January 30 In a relief to residents who complain of dumping of horticulture waste in their respective areas the local MC has decided to remove it twice a week. “We will fix two days in a week when MC vehicles will lift horticulture waste from different areas” said MC Commissioner KK Yadav. Councillors and residents have raised this issue many times. A few councillors had recently requested the MC chief to make this provision of fixing days so that people could keep the horticulture waste ready when vehicles visited their areas. As the MC is in the process of phasing out all existing Sehaj Safai Kendras (SSKs) the vehicles which carried general waste from here to the garbage processing plant will be utilised for the purpose. Yadav said they would refurbish the vehicles and then use them to pick the horticulture waste. The civic body is soon going to decide the days for removal of horticulture waste. This waste can be seen dumped in parks as well as in open areas outside houses. “Since other waste collectors do not take horticulture waste the residents keep it outside their houses or in open areas. Nobody picks it and it remains there for days” said Rajeev Singh a resident of Sector 18. Resident Welfare Associations often raised this issue at meetings. Residents feel since the days will now be fixed for the removal of horticulture waste accountability could be fixed and work done properly.
