Women have dismantled social barriers inequality says Supreme Court Judge

Tribune News ServiceChandigarh January 30“The Supreme Court has played a proactive role in recognising right to education as one of the fundamental rights given to citizens of India. With the enactment and implementation of right to education by the Indian Parliament the social and economic status of citizens especially the vulnerable section of society has drastically improved” said Justice Surya Kant of the Supreme Court (SC). Speaking on the occasion Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai of the Supreme Court said right to life provided under Article 21 was meaningless without the incorporation of the right to education. “The need for clean energy is increasing day-by-day due to the non-stop degradation of our environment with the excessive usage of fossil fuels by the mankind” said Justice Sabrina McKenna Associate Justice Supreme Court of Hawai. Other Judges who addressed the audience include Chief Judge of Land and Environment Court of New South Wales Justice Brian Preston; Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Ananda Mohan and President of The East African Court of Justice Justice Emmanuel Ugirashebuja.

Speaking at the inaugural session of two-day international webinar on “Global challenges in modern times” hosted by Chandigarh University Justice Surya Kant asserted that an educated person was more aware about fundamental rights and duties.” “Women today have dismantled social barriers and inequality the world had enforced upon them. This has been possible in country like India only because of recognition of right to education as important by the union and state governments” he added. Judges from no less than 10 countries including the USA the UK Nepal EU Brazil and Australia are taking part in the webinar to share their thoughts and ideas on issues such as right to education nuclear energy and environment protection laws for migrant population and human rights. More than 25000 students and faculty from law schools across India participated on the first day of the webinar. Speaking on the occasion Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai of the Supreme Court said right to life provided under Article 21 was meaningless without the incorporation of the right to education. “With the implementation of new education policy offering flexibility more and more deprived sections of society will come under the ambit of education. It will improve their social and economic status” Justice Gavai added. “The need for clean energy is increasing day-by-day due to the non-stop degradation of our environment with the excessive usage of fossil fuels by the mankind” said Justice Sabrina McKenna Associate Justice Supreme Court of Hawai. Other Judges who addressed the audience include Chief Judge of Land and Environment Court of New South Wales Justice Brian Preston; Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Ananda Mohan and President of The East African Court of Justice Justice Emmanuel Ugirashebuja. The two-day webinar will continue with Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice AM Khanwilkar from the Supreme Court and international Judges from European Union Sri Lanka Brazil and the USA are taking part in the webinar.
