Mohali traders oppose extension in curfew hours

Tribune News Service Mohali April 27 On the first day of the extended curfew timings members of the Mohali Beopar Mandal staged a protest against the state governments decision to close the markets by 5 pm at the Phase 7 market here today. Traders being made scapegoat Mohali Beopar Mandal president Vineet Verma and general secretary Sarabjit Singh Paras said the government was against the traders and they were being made a scapegoat. The protesters alleged that liquor shops were being allowed till 9 pm but the common man was being intimidated. The protesting traders raised slogans against the government and claimed that they would not follow the orders. The protesters demanded that the government should take back its decision of imposing curfew from 6 pm onwards. Mohali Beopar Mandal president Vineet Verma and general secretary Sarabjit Singh Paras said the government was against the traders and they were being made scapegoats. The protesters alleged that liquor shops were being allowed till 9 pm but the common man was being intimidated. Verma said the shopkeepers grievance had been conveyed to the Deputy Commissioner during a meeting. “If the government wants to impose curfew it should bear the expenses. Shopkeepers have already suffered a lot during the lockdown. Now they are being denied their livelihood. Leaders hold rallies and gatherings daily but the Mohali administration does not take action against them” questioned Verma. On the first day of the extended curfew timings today the police nudged the shopkeepers to close their shops in various markets of the city. Protest in Zirakpur In Zirakpur a massive protest was organised by Pabhat road traders against the extended curfew timings and weekend lockdown. The traders alleged that multinational warehouses were operating as usual but retailers grocery shop owners vegetable vendors and small-time traders were being made to suffer by the government.
