Milkha Singh's wife Nirmal Milkha Singh succumbs to Covid-19, legendary sprinter couldn't even attend the funeral

Nirmal Milkha Singh was a former captain of the Indian women`s volleyball team and a former Director of Sports (Women) in the Government of Punjab.

Nirmal Milkha Singh, the wife of legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, has passed away due to Covid-19; she was 85 years old and breathed her last at 4 pm on Sunday. Nirmal Milkha Singh was a former captain of the Indian women`s volleyball team and a former Director of Sports (Women) in the Government of Punjab. She was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali after being infected with Covid-19. Milkha Singh is also admitted in ICU at PGI Chandigarh and that`s why he could not attend the funeral.

The health of Milkha Singh is continuously improving; he had to be admitted to PGI on June 3 due to a sudden deterioration in his health. He has been admitted to the ICU ward of Covid Hospital. Other parameters increased during infection are also gradually returning to normal.

Milkha Singh`s covid report came positive on 19 May. After this, on 24 May, he was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Here he was kept on oxygen support. Milkha Singh was discharged from the hospital on his family`s request on May 30 and was undergoing treatment at home.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to him on the phone and inquired about his health on Friday. PM wished him a speedy recovery and hoped that he would recover and boost the morale of the athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics.
