Bajrang Dal foils beef smuggling in port

  • | Wednesday | 6th March, 2024

Bajrang Dal members intervened in a suspected beef smuggling attempt at the Paradip Port, thwarting an operation that involved the transportation of beef along with vegetables to foreign ships docked at the port.   The Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a truck (AP-39-VC-1998) at Gate No 4 of the port. Acting on a tipoff about the presence of beef in a vehicle carrying vegetables and other goods, the activists promptly alerted the Model police station.   Upon inspection, the vehicle emitted foul odour, prompting suspicion among the activists and law enforcement officials. Subsequent searches revealed boxes filled with beef concealed among the cargo. Police detained the vehicle and initiated an investigation into its origin and intended destination.   Notably, the truck originating from Andhra Pradesh was laden with vegetables and beef destined for supply to ships anchored at the harbour. While the vehicle was intended to enter through Gate No 3, it inadvertently arrived at Gate No 4, which has been closed since February 29. The proximity of the Paradip Model police station facilitated the swift apprehension of the vehicle and its illicit cargo.   The discovery has raised pertinent questions regarding the identity of the shipping agent involved, the recipient ship and the source of the smuggled beef. Authorities await further investigation to ascertain the full extent of the smuggling operation and take appropriate action against those responsible.
