Punjab Cabinet is set to convene for a crucial meeting on Saturday in Chandigarh, presided over by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The timing of the meeting assumes significance as it coincides with the ongoing budget session.   Sources indicated that the agenda includes discussions on the formulation of a new liquor policy for the fiscal year 2024-25, and potential revisions to the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees. Additionally, proposals related to providing Rs 1000 financial assistance to women may also be on the agenda.   Notably, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, in a post-budget session media interaction, had hinted at expediting the fulfillment of electoral promises, indicating the governments commitment to meeting its guarantees. Also, the Opposition parties have intensified their pressure on the government regarding these issues.   Given the possibility of imminent Lok Sabha elections, there is speculation that proposals for a new recruitment process to address youth unemployment may also be tabled. With the government in election mode, there is anticipation regarding the direction and focus of the meeting, although the specific agenda has not been officially disclosed.   Among other important issues, the Cabinet is also expected to give nod to several bills which it may table in the state assembly the next week.
