Himachal Congress carries out Torch March against BJP at the Ridge

  • | Tuesday | 12th March, 2024

Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday participated in the Torch (Mashaal) procession carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) which started from the Ridge and culminated at Ambedkar Chowk, Chaura Maidan in Shimla.     The state unit of the ruling Congress carried out the march against the BJP and its allies, for trying to destabilize the state government by using unconstitutional means. HPCC President Pratibha Singh,  all the Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Speaker, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries,  MLAs, various office bearers, party leaders and party office bearers participated in the procession. Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that BJP attempted to show dust to the democratic process and making mockery of the democratic norms in an unethical and undemocratic manner and tried to topple the congress government in the State, ignoring the huge mandate of the people given to Congress.  An attempt was made by the Central Government to attack the democratically elected State Government by using unconstitutional means, he alleged. Sukhu said that the previous government had worsened the fiscal health of the state and left a huge debt burden on the State. "We have not come for enjoying power but for serving the people of the State with a motto of Vyavastha Parivartan ", he remarked. He said that the government will complete its five years tenure in the service of its people and not let evil forces hinder the development of the State.   "We have fulfilled  five out of the 10 guarantees as promised to the people in the election manifesto in just 13 months of our regime, benefitting all sections of the society, whereas the BJP was trying to mislead the people," he said.       Congress MLAs rebellion black chapter says Sukhu The rebellion by the six Congress legislators who "sold their souls" for their vested interests would be remembered as a "black chapter" in the history of the state,  Sukhu said earlier on Monday at Indora. The MLAs -- Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Rajinder Rana, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Chetanya Sharma and Devinder Kumar Bhutto -- had cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha election for the lone seat in Himachal Pradesh, leading to the defeat of the Congress official candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania later disqualified the six MLAs for allegedly defying a party whip on voting for the state Budget in the assembly. Addressing a public gathering at Indora in Kangra district, the CM said the disqualified MLAs were being escorted by the central security agencies, but wont be able to face the people of their constituencies. "Their actions will be remembered as a black chapter in the history of the state. They sold their souls for their vested interests," Sukhu said. Terming the BJP as a "power hungry" party, he said the people will never forget and forgive the attempts by the saffron party to topple the democratically elected government in Himachal Pradesh by using dhan bal (money power). "Some people have become addicted to power and as a result, they have betrayed the mandate of the people by resorting to evil attempts to topple the state government", he said.
