Jalandhar Police nabs Gangster of Gounder gang, averts planned killings

Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has escalated its efforts in curbing organized crime, achieving a significant breakthrough by apprehending a notorious gangster associated with the Gounder Group. The operation led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma resulted in the arrest of the gangster, who was found in possession of weapons and heroin.   According to Commissioner Sharma, the apprehended gangster had 14 pending cases against him, involving various organized criminal activities such as arms and drug trafficking, attempted murder, and extortion.   The Police received intelligence indicating the presence of a gangster affiliated with the Vicky Gounder gang operating in the city, engaging in illicit activities including the illegal arms trade in Jalandhar and neighboring areas. The individual was identified as a proclaimed offender, poised to perpetrate further crimes utilizing the illegal weaponry at his disposal.   Following the provided intelligence and descriptions, a specialized police team successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as Surinder Kumar, son of Som Nath and resident of Quarter No 1, Nagar Nigam, Jalandhar. The arrest took place near Park, Johal Market, Model Town, Jalandhar, opposite Kahlon Market. During the operation, law enforcement recovered a 32-bore pistol with a magazine and five cartridges from the suspect.   Commissioner Sharma revealed that during interrogation, Surinder Kumar confessed to his involvement in multiple criminal activities. Additionally, Kumar admitted to possessing another weapon — a 315 bore desi katta pistol — along with 260 grams of heroin, which were seized from him.   A First Information Report (FIR), dated April 25, 2024, under sections 25(6)-54-59 of the Arms Act and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has been lodged against him at PS Division 6, Jalandhar.   Further investigation into the case is underway, with law enforcement authorities committed to unveiling additional details as the inquiry progresses.
