Cong faces turmoil in Sangrur as former MLA Goldy hints at switch

  • | Tuesday | 30th April, 2024

Anticipated turbulence looms over the pivotal Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency as Dalvir Singh Khangura Goldy, former Congress MLA from Dhuri, drops hints of embarking on a new path. His cryptic message, shared on social media platforms, has ignited speculation and piqued interest statewide, signaling a potential realignment in the regions political landscape.   In a cryptic message, Goldy expressed his contemplation over forging a new path, suggesting dissatisfaction with his current political allegiance. His post alluded to a desire for change and hinted at a departure from his longstanding association with the Congress party.   Speculation intensified further as Goldy shared a photograph of himself seated in a car, indicating his departure for the national capital. Insider sources reveal that Goldys visit to the national capital might culminate in his formal induction into the BJP ranks. If confirmed, this development could significantly alter the electoral landscape in Sangrur and potentially impact the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.   Goldys potential defection comes at a crucial juncture for Congress, which is already grappling with internal rifts and organizational challenges in the state. The partys nominee for the Sangrur constituency, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, was banking on Goldys support to bolster his electoral campaign. However, Goldys apparent disenchantment with the Congress leadership could deal a severe blow to Khairas prospects and jeopardize the partys stronghold in the region.   Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Goldys political future, the BJP stood poised to capitalize on the opportunity presented by his potential defection. While the party is yet to announce its candidate for the Sangrur seat, speculations abound regarding the possible nomination of Arvind Khanna or Kewal Singh Dhillon, both of whom have withdrawn their names from contention in recent developments.   Goldy had earlier also taken to social media to openly express his dissatisfaction over declaration of Khairas candidature from Sangrur — the seat he was also aspiring for. However, after Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, and Khaira personally reached out to him, Goldy had agreed to join the party campaign and support Khairas candidature.
