In the backdrop of the rising Temperature and Heat Wave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh is currently under Red Alert.    A statement issued here said a severe heat wave is anticipated to affect Chandigarh in the coming days. To ensure the safety and well-being of the general public, the Chandigarh Disaster Management Authority has issued a public advisory.   It advised the public to remain hydrated by consuming Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), drinks with electrolytes, and homemade beverages such as lassi, torani, lemon water, and buttermilk. It asked people to limit outdoor activities and avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12 Noon and 3 P.M. When outside, wear loose, cotton, light-weight, and light-colored clothing. Carry drinking water and an umbrella for protection against extreme heat.    The dietary recommendations include  incorporation of seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content into your diet. Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks as they can lead to dehydration and stomach cramps. Extra care should be given to the elderly, pregnant women, and infants. Ensure they drink plenty of fluids and use cool baths, showers, or wet towels on their neck and underarms to control body temperature.
