Gujarat Police Nabs Bihar Youth from Jalandhar with Suspicious Indo-Pak Conflict Data

Gujarat Police on Thursday arrested a man from Jalandhars Bhargav Camp area for his alleged involvement in a high-profile cyber fraud case. The accused, identified as Mohammad Murtaza Ali, a native of Bihar and currently residing in Jalandhars Gandhi Nagar in Bhargava Camp area, was apprehended with assistance from the Jalandhar Police.   Authorities recovered four mobile phones and three SIM cards from Ali, which, according to sources, contained suspicious videos, news links, and phone numbers allegedly linked to the India-Pakistan conflict. While Gujarat Police have booked the youth under cybercrime charges, the nature of digital content found on his devices has raised serious concerns about a potential espionage angle.   Initial speculation suggested that Ali might have links to Pakistans Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), though Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur clarified that the arrest was related to cyber fraud, not direct espionage. However, investigators are not ruling out deeper cross-border connections, especially after preliminary forensic analyses hinted at strategic media content transfers during periods of heightened Indo-Pak tensions.   Ali allegedly developed a mobile application aggregating real-time content from Indian news channels, which investigators believed was used to feed information to handlers across the border when Pakistan restricted access to Indian broadcasts. The app, reportedly distributed for a price to ISI operatives, allowed near-instant tracking of internal affairs within India, prompting suspicions of covert surveillance and data leakage.   Adding to the intrigue, it was revealed that the accused had recently purchased a 25-marla plot in Jalandhars Gandhi Nagar locality and was building a luxurious house worth an estimated Rs 1.5 crore. A financial probe into his bank accounts showed transactions worth Rs 40 lakh in just one month. The origin, routing, and purpose of these funds are now under investigation by Gujarat Police in collaboration with the states Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).   Sources within Gujarat Police confirmed that Ali has been transported to Gandhinagar for detailed interrogation and digital forensics. The case is being closely monitored by central intelligence agencies given the potential implications for national security.   Though officially termed a cyber fraud case, the recovery of conflict-related media, financial irregularities, and suspected ISI linkages indicate the possibility of a larger conspiracy — a matter likely to see deeper scrutiny in the days ahead.
