In a boost to Punjabs road infrastructure, the State Government on Saturday laid foundation stones for several major road projects worth Rs 21.53 crore. The initiative reflected Chief Minister Bhagwant Manns commitment to building world-class connectivity across rural and urban areas alike.   Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, announcing the development, said that the government is focused on modernizing Punjabs road network to ease travel and improve economic activity. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, we are committed to providing the people of Punjab with the best infrastructure. Todays projects mark a big step in that direction, he stated.   A major project launched was the 20.80 km Gehri Mandi–Jabbowal–Dehriwal–Mehsampur Road in Amritsar district. With a sanctioned budget of Rs 17.65 crore, construction on this stretch has already begun. The road, situated along the key Mehta Road corridor, is expected to be completed within six months and will significantly reduce traffic congestion for residents in the region.   Similarly, Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak inaugurated the construction of a 6.5 km road in the Bhoa Assembly segment at a cost of Rs 3.58 crore. The 18-foot-wide road will enhance access for villages including Serpur, Panjod, Phulpiara, and Sujanpur. The project comes after a gap of 25 years and is expected to benefit nearly 20,000 people, with the contractor also responsible for its maintenance for five years post-completion.   Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh also highlighted a crucial rural link project in the Dirba Assembly Constituency. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, a day before, flagged off the 15.60 km Dirba–Baghrol road, which passes through Samuran, Saifipur Khurd, and Saifipur Kalan. With an investment of Rs 7.85 crore, the road will serve as a vital connection for farmers and locals commuting to the Dirba grain market and city, while also improving access to the religious site Dera Baba Amarnath.   These road projects are not just about laying asphalt — they are about connecting people, boosting local economies, and ensuring rural Punjab is not left behind in the development journey, Harbhajan Singh added.
