In an unprecedented show of enthusiasm for wellness, over 21,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at the PAP Ground in Jalandhar on Thursday to participate in a massive state-level CM di Yogshala event — setting a new record for the largest single yoga event in Punjab.   Initially, arrangements were made for 17,000 yoga mats, but the overwhelming public response far exceeded expectations, reflecting a growing awareness and acceptance of yoga as a lifestyle choice across all sections of society.   While Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who launched the initiative two years ago from Jalandhar, was expected to attend the event, he was notably absent. The states Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Balbir Singh led the event in his place and delivered an inspiring address to the assembled crowd.   Its heartwarming to see people from all walks of life embracing yoga with such enthusiasm. CM di Yogshala is more than just a wellness initiative — its a movement toward building a healthier, stronger, and more vibrant Punjab, said Dr Balbir, flanked by Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal and Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur.   He informed that under the programme, nearly 3,200 yoga classes are being conducted daily across Punjab, benefiting around one lakh people. These classes are led by trained instructors, appointed to guide participants in performing yoga with discipline and accuracy. The Minister appealed to citizens to make yoga a permanent part of their daily routine, emphasizing its role in achieving a stress-free, disease-free life.   Dr Balbir also announced that CM di Yogshala will soon be extended to rural areas, ensuring that the health benefits of yoga reach every household across Punjab. He highlighted how yoga has proven instrumental in the states anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh, helping youth stay away from addiction and fostering mental resilience.   The event also saw participation from a number of dignitaries, including Mayor Vaneet Dheer, AAP leader Nitin Kohli, Health secretary Kumar Rahul, Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sood of Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Director Rajinder Singh Rihal, and ADGP Naresh Arora.
