  • | Monday | 23rd June, 2025

Taking a firm stand against the spread of vulgar and obscene content on social media, the Punjab Government has issued strict directives to protect childrens mental and emotional well-being. The states Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Sunday warned that vulgarity on social media will not be tolerated and pledged immediate action against individuals responsible for posting such harmful material.   Dr Baljit emphasized that the increasing circulation of objectionable content online is having a direct and detrimental impact on children, and reiterated the States commitment to protecting their rights. She welcomed the orders issued by the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to the ADGP (Cyber Crime), instructing action against violators under stringent laws.   All District Social Security and Child Development Officers have been directed to keep a strict vigil, said the Minister, adding that any complaint must be promptly forwarded to both the police and the Child Rights Commission. She also called for awareness campaigns at the grassroots level to educate parents, teachers, and youth about responsible digital behavior.   To strengthen the crackdown, the Police Department has been instructed to intensify online surveillance and take swift action under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the IT Act 2000, and the POCSO Act 2012.   Calling for a collective effort, Dr Baljit urged the parents, educators, and civil society to report such content without delay. Creating a safe, healthy, and positive digital space for children is a shared responsibility, and we must act together to eliminate this menace, she said. Offenders will face strictest legal consequences to deter future violations, she affirmed.
