Students of HAU suspended their strike after VC sent on leave

  • | Thursday | 26th June, 2025

After days of protests, an agreement has been reached between the government and the students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, with the Vice-Chancellor Dr BR Kamboj likely to be sent on an extended leave of six months. Sources said that the State Government has assured the students that their demands would be implemented in a phased manner. As a result, the students have decided to suspend their agitation. They, however, said that the dharna would only be removed after demands were accepted in writing. Chief Security Officer Sukhbir Singh is expected to be transferred out of the HAU campus, while the DSW is likely to be suspended. No disciplinary action would be taken against the students.  The examinations would also be rescheduled. The registrar, Dr Pawan Kumar, and secretary Kapil Arora would be removed from their present posts. A three-member judicial committee headed by a retired judge would conduct the inquiry into the incident of the lathi-charge on students and the alleged conduct of the VC. Earlier on Friday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini formed a four-member committee to speak to the HAU students, who have been protesting for the past two weeks against the alleged assault on them by university security guards during a dharna against changes in scholarship rules for post-graduate students.
