A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Crime Against Women, Rajanpal – posted in Faridkot – has been arrested and suspended after he allegedly attempted to offer a bribe of Rs one lakh to the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to suppress a corruption complaint filed against him. The arrest has reignited focus on the Bhagwant Mann-led Governments zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, particularly within the law enforcement machinery.   The controversial officer landed in trouble after a matrimonial dispute case involving a local woman, Kiranjeet Kaur from Pakka village in Faridkot, led to allegations that he had taken money from the complainants family but failed to resolve the case. The womans brother, Karamtej Singh subsequently approached SSP Dr Pragya Jain and formally submitted a complaint against DSP Rajanpal, accusing him of accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh and still not delivering justice.   When Rajanpal learned about the complaint, he allegedly attempted to bribe ASI Jaswinder Singh, Reader to the SSP, urging him to make the matter go away by offering the same Rs one lakh amount. However, ASI Jaswinder Singh immediately informed the SSP, who directed that legal action be taken. As a result, FIR, dated July 4, 2025, was registered against the DSP under Sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station City, Faridkot, and Rajanpal was arrested the same day.   A Punjab Police spokesperson confirmed that apart from arresting the officer, strict departmental proceedings have been initiated under the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970. The spokesperson reiterated that no one, irrespective of rank, will be spared if found indulging in corruption, and praised the alertness of officials who resisted pressure and followed the law.   The arrest comes close on the heels of another sweeping action by the state government. On June 28, as many as 25 officials from Punjabs jail system — including superintendents, deputy superintendents, assistant jailors, and warders — were suspended for collusion in drug smuggling and corrupt practices. The suspended staff belonged to jails in Mansa, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Goindwal Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Bathinda, and Pathankot.
