Heavy Rain Alert in Himachal: Flash Flood Warning Issued for 10 Districts, Orange Alert for Today

  • | Monday | 7th July, 2025

Himachal Pradesh is bracing for another spell of intense monsoon activity, as the State Meteorological Departments Hydromet Division on Sunday issued a flash flood warning for 10 districts, along with an orange weather alert for eight districts on July 7 (Monday). The warning follows continuous rainfall across several regions and predictions of heavier downpours in the coming days.   According to the department, there is a moderate to high risk of flash floods in the districts of Shimla, Kangra, Solan, Kullu, Mandi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Chamba, and Una over the next 24 hours. The warning comes in light of saturated soil conditions and the potential for sudden surface run-off and inundation, especially in low-lying areas.   An orange alert — indicating the likelihood of very heavy to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning — has been issued for Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Una for Monday. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been sounded for Kullu and Chamba, warning of heavy rainfall in isolated pockets.   The MeT office further forecasted that light to moderate rainfall will persist across the state till July 12, with intermittent heavy spells expected at isolated locations till July 10. In the wake of the rain activity, the maximum temperatures are expected to dip by 2 degree Celsius to 3 degree Celsius over the next 48 hours, before climbing again by 2 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius. However, minimum temperatures are likely to remain stable, with no major fluctuations anticipated.   The latest downpour has already impacted parts of the state in the past 24 hours. Aghar in Hamirpur district recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm, followed by Nagrota Surian in Kangra with 100 mm. Una received 67.2 mm, Dharamsala 61.1 mm, Mandi 21.2 mm, Kangra 11.8 mm, Bilaspur 8.4 mm, and Shimla recorded 1.2 mm of rain.   Authorities have urged residents, especially those in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas, to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather activity. Rescue teams and disaster response units have been asked to stay on standby.
