Gagan K Teja Patiala, September 4 In a major boost to the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), the corporation added 30 new km-scheme buses to its fleet. These buses are a part of 150 new km-scheme buses that are being added to its existing fleet in order to replace old buses that have outlived their life. The corporation had recently decided to add the 150 new km-scheme buses as they had not added any km-scheme bus last year. While 88 self-owned buses of the PRTC have outlived their life, as many as 70 km-scheme buses too need replacement. Of these, 30 buses have already come on road. While 20 buses have been given to the Patiala depot, 10- buses have been added to the Sangrur depot. It takes them a step closer in achieving their daily sanctioned mileage of 3.5 lakh km. At present, the PRTC is covering about 3.3 lakh km per day but with the addition of these new buses, they are planning to meet the shortage of 20,000 km soon since the outlived buses are being run only for about 250 km per day whereas the new buses often cover around 400 km daily. PRTC Managing Director MS Narang said the remaining buses would also be added to the fleet shortly, which would help in achieving the daily target of 3.5 lakh km. “PRTC’s daily income is around Rs 1.25 crore and once we have a proper fleet of good buses, we are sure to increase our revenue. This will definitely give us a major push. Moreover, we have also invited tenders for the addition of 100 new PRTC buses that we are planning to add to our fleet shortly,” he added.
