CHANDIGARH: Two young women from Dalit families were allegedly gangraped by a group of five youths who had been stalking them for the past few days. Police registered a case against the accused on Friday, following a complaint by the survivors at the Kaithal women police station.The survivors belong to 'sapera' (snake charmers) community, which is notified as Scheduled Caste in Haryana.Kaithal superintendent of police (SP) Aastha Modi said the survivors would be sent for a medical examination and further action taken into the case only after that. "Initially, they (survivors) had complained about stalking. It was only after their counselling and interaction with women officials that they revealed about the alleged rape," said the SP.Since the survivors did not know the accused, no sections related to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were added, she said.According to information, the survivors were among a group of five women who were allegedly stalked by the youths from their village. On November 29, the women, including the two survivors, had gone to village outskirts to collect firewood when the accused allegedly kidnapped them. Later, they abandoned them at the same place after sexually abusing them. "The survivors have said they can identify the accused. They have denied any knowledge about the identity of their attackers," said Modi.
