Theni forest fire death toll rises to 10

The body was moved to the mortuary for postmortem.Nine dead bodies were recovered from the forest. MADURAI: The death toll in a forest fire in Theni district of Tamil Nadu rose to 10 with a 30-year-old woman trekker who was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital succumbing to her burn injuries on Monday evening.T Nisha from Chennai was one of the 36 trekkers who was caught in the forest fire on Kurangani hills on Sunday afternoon. She was rescued from the spot and admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital here.Nisha had suffered nearly 100% burn injuries and had been battling for her life. She was later put on a life-support system. On Monday evening, her family decided to pull her off the life-support system. The body was moved to the mortuary for postmortem.Nine dead bodies were recovered from the forest. Seven of the deceased, including Nisha, were from Chennai while the rest were from Tiruppur. Other deceased have been identified as Subha, Hemalatha, Punitha, Akila; Arun, Vipin Dhivya, Vivek and Tamilselvan.Meanwhile, another patient, E Jayashree from Chennai, who had suffered 90 % burn injuries, was airlifted to Coimbatore. She has been moved to Madurai airport from where she was taken to an air ambulance which arrived from Coimbatore.
