Adyar Gate Hotels approaches HC

The Adyar Gate Hotels has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging a demand made by the Greater Chennai Corporation for property tax dues to the tune of over ?24 crore. The Corporation had on Tuesday sent town criers to the luxury hotel owned by the petitioner at Alwarpet here demanding the tax. A video of the town criers making the demand by putting a notice on the compound wall and beating a tom-tom outside the hotel premises had gone viral on social media. Justice M. Duraiswamy on Friday wanted to know whether the petitioner would be willing to deposit a substantial amount before the court could consider granting interim orders in its favour. The matter was later adjourned to Monday.
