The personnel of the Intellectual Property Right Enforcement Cell (IPREC), a unit of the CB-CID, conducted a drive against those selling spurious two-wheeler spare parts in different places in Kancheepuram district and recovered spurious spare parts worth ?2 lakh. The complaint at the IPREC was lodged by the manager of C3i Consultant India Private Limited, which has been authorised by the TVS Motor Company. The fake auto parts were sold under the TVS brand name to unsuspecting customers. The raids were conducted in showrooms in Kancheepuram town, Padappai and Guduvanchery and cases have been registered against the owners under the provisions of Copyright Act, 1957. Market surveyAccording to the complaint, they had conducted a market survey in February this year and realised that the shop owners in three places were involved in the manufacture, stocking and sale of spurious auto spare parts and selling them as genuine ones made by the motor company.
