Policemen who died with Rajiv remembered

Office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Retired Police Welfare Association and the family members of the slain police personnel also paid tributes. Painful memoriesThe Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram police district, Santosh Hadimoni, placed a wreath at the memorial on the premises of the Sriperumbudur police station. Mohammed Iqbal, were observing the death anniversary at places where the mortal remains of the policemen were cremated, the association felt that it would be apt to pay homage to them at the place where they died.

Dharman who died in the blast triggered by a human bomb at the venue of an election meeting Rajiv Gandi was scheduled to address; K. Mani, husband of woman police constable Chandra, and John Joseph, brother of inspector Edward Joseph, also paid homage to the victims. Apt spot Association vice-president E. Bharathidasan told presspersons that although the families of the police personnel, including the Superintendent of Police of the then Chengai-MGR (West) police district, T.K.S. Mohammed Iqbal, were observing the death anniversary at places where the mortal remains of the policemen were cremated, the association felt that it would be apt to pay homage to them at the place where they died. “Apart from remembering nine of our colleagues, we also pay homage to seven innocent members of society who had assembled at the site to hear the speech of their leader”, Mr. Bharathidasan added.
