3 elephants rescued from well in Tamil Nadu

ERODE: Forest personnel rescued three elephants, including a calf , that fell into a 60-foot deep well in a village near Kadambur in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday night. After six hours of struggling, they rescued the elephants with the help of villagers on Wednesday morning.The well was lying unused in Gurusamy Thottam area of Kanangkundur village, outside the K N Palayam forest.“The calf might have fallen first due to lack of visibility. The rest might have been fallen into the well while trying to save the calf,” forest veterinary doctor K Asokan, who was part of the rescue team, told TOI.Asokan and a team of forest officials, including district forest officer P G Arunlal, ranger T R Bernard and 20 others, rushed to the spot around 3.30am on Wednesday.They rescued the elephants after creating a slope on one side of the well.All the elephants, including the calf, didn’t have any injuries.They went back to the forest after being rescued.
