Sarkar is actor Vijay’s next flick

The title and first-look poster of actor Vijay’s upcoming film Sarkar were released on Thursday, a day ahead of the actor’s birthday. Sarkar marks the third collaboration of the actor and Murugadoss, who have previously worked together on Kathi and Thuppaki. The production house also announced that another poster would be released at midnight to mark Vijay’s birthday. The poster had a photo of the actor holding a lighter and smoking a cigarette. Vijay’s last movie Mersal, was last year’s Deepavali release.

Murugadoss, is the actor’s 62nd film and is produced by Sun Pictures. The poster unveiled on Twitter by Sun Pictures, received over 22,000 re-tweets and was shared widely by the actor’s fans. The production house also announced that another poster would be released at midnight to mark Vijay’s birthday. Sarkar marks the third collaboration of the actor and Murugadoss, who have previously worked together on Kathi and Thuppaki. The film stars Keerthy Suresh alongside Vijay and has music by A.R. Rahman. The makers have announced that the movie will be released on Deepavali this year. Vijay’s last movie Mersal, was last year’s Deepavali release. The poster, however, drew criticism from PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss, who came down heavily on the actor and tweeted, asking him to act responsibly and not promote smoking. The poster had a photo of the actor holding a lighter and smoking a cigarette. “You’ll look more stylish without that cigarette #SmokingKills #SmokingCausesCancer,” Mr. Anbumani said on his Twitter page. The Tamil Nadu People’s Forum For Tobacco Control too in a statement said that it was planning legal action since the poster was a violation of Section 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
