Trichy: Trucks to remain off roads from July 20

Governments should seriously consider revising the toll collection policy by removing toll booths in a section of highways where toll collection has been going on for decades,” Trichy District Lorry Owners Association secretary R K Prabhakaran said.The association demanded that the Tamil Nadu government slash value-added tax (VAT) on fuel. TRICHY: The Trichy District Lorry Owners’ Association will participate in an indefinite strike from July 20 called by the national level truckers body to protest the frequent fuel price hike.In a meeting here on Thursday, the truck owners’ association announced that 6,000 trucks in Trichy district would participate in the strike.Stating that frequent hike in diesel prices had been affecting their business as people in need of transporting goods prefer other modes instead of hiring trucks, the truckers’ association said it was forced to participate in the indefinite stir which might very much affect the flow of essential commodities into the city.“Every year, the central government is permitting toll road operators to revise the toll and we are forced to shell out money from our profit in paying the fee.
