CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar on Sunday denied allegations of corruption in the supply of eggs for school students under the state government noon meal scheme. The minister was reacting to the recent income tax searches on the premises of Christy Friedgram Industry that supplies egg for noon meal scheme and the government’s reported abandoning of fresh tenders for supply of eggs."Searches are carried out by the income tax department over concealing of income and non-payment taxes in several companies (across the country). Why should these be linked and allege corruption," Jayakumar said while talking to reporters after garlanding the statue of K Kamaraj on Marina Beach here on the occasion of the late chief minister’s birth anniversary.According to him, it had become a habit for the Centre and Union ministers to allege corruption in everything happening in Tamil Nadu. "If need be, we too can hit back," Jayakumar said.Responding to a question on reports about formalin found in fish in the state, Jayakumar said, "Random samples tested from major fish markets and centres in the state. The tests did not reveal the presence of formalin, and I have already explained in detail."
